I've walked past this log many times; it's always fascinating to me how much you can find when you take the time to look, and the subtle appearances, and disappearances that transpire over the days, weeks, and months.

    1. oh yeah, it’s really fascinating what’s going on there. I read a paper awhile back that discusses the different stages of decomposition in a fallen tree and the stages of microbial, invertebrate, and vertebrate growth and colonization that occurs there. really interesting stuff.
